Canola Oil (Non-Organic / Refined)
Depends on dose
Canola oil. A cheap refined seed oil; the unrefined version is the one worth having.
- What it does
- Emollient & barrier
- Our take
- Some clean standards ban refined canola outright. We think that is a food-quality argument imported into a cosmetics list. Refined canola is heavily processed and low in the fatty acids that make an oil worth using on skin, so we would almost never choose it, but that is a quality judgement, not a safety one.
- What we look for
- Cold-pressed only, and rarely worth choosing
- Can it clog pores
- Moderate. Some people on blemish-prone skin react to it. This flag is for the face only, it does not apply to body, hair or home care.
Every other ingredient, with the same treatment.
