Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate

Cleaner choiceReviewed September 18, 2026

Cetearyl Olivate · Sorbitan Olivate · Olivem

An olive-derived emulsifier pair that holds oil and water together and mimics skin lipids while doing it.

What it does
Emulsifiers, Emollient & barrier
Our take
An olive-derived emulsifier pair used where a conventional cream would use an ethoxylated one. It replaces the chemistry we exclude and adds barrier benefit rather than just doing a mechanical job. The emulsifier we're happiest to see, because it replaces the ethoxylated ones we exclude and adds barrier benefit rather than just doing a mechanical job. Not to be confused with olive oil itself, which is comedogenic. These are not.
Suitable from
Young adult, 20+ · Middle aged, 40+
Best for
Barrier repair · Aging & firmness
Skin types
Any skin · Dry · Sensitive
