Coconut Oil

AllowedReviewed September 18, 2026

Cocos Nucifera Oil · Cocos Nucifera Seed Butter · Coconut Butter · Coconut Alkanes

A saturated plant oil, very high in lauric acid, that sits on the skin surface.

What it does
Emollient & barrier
Our take
Nothing is wrong with it and we sell plenty of it. But it's one of the most consistently flagged pore-clogging ingredients on every comedogenic list in circulation, and here the anecdotal evidence is as strong as the assay data. Position is the whole story: first or second in a cleansing balm is a real exposure; ninth in a body butter is not.
Suitable from
Young adult, 20+ · Middle aged, 40+
Best for
Barrier repair · Dryness & hydration
Skin types
Dry
Can it clog pores
High. We flag it for anyone whose skin congests easily. This flag is for the face only, it does not apply to body, hair or home care.
Instead try
Hemp seed oil or squalane on the face. Keep the coconut for body, hands, hair and cuticles.
