Never allowed
The ring-shaped silicones, cyclopentasiloxane, cyclohexasiloxane and their relatives, often listed as cyclomethicone.

- Our take
- We permit linear silicones like dimethicone and say why. The cyclic ones are different: D4 and D5 are classified persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic in the EU, restricted in rinse-off since 2020, and they do not break down in waterways. This is the one place in the silicone family where we draw a hard line.
- Instead try
- Dimethicone, squalane, coco-caprylate or a plant ester.
