- They absorb through skin, have been detected in human tissue, and several act as weak estrogen mimics. The EU restricted propyl- and butylparaben in leave-on products for children under three. The evidence on real-world harm is genuinely mixed. But effective alternatives exist, so there's no reason to make you carry the debate.

- Sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and caprylhydroxamic acid do the same job and are all over our catalog.
